The towel thing was a method of reducing the pain and stress from your neck and back , from having the guitar hanging there, some say it was an accident since so suicide note , some say it was a suicide , he was also suffering from depression and stress , iirc some of his fans did copycat ''suicides'' based on the incident. The guy is dead yes but he has inspired and enlightened millions suicide or accident.
