Esperanza kind of reminds me of Amel Larrieux in the way that her talent is so authentic, pure, and uncommon. The music industry is flooded with so much monotony. A talent like hers will return people back to the love of music.

I'm back, y'all. But then I hadn't heard of her before and her CDs sold out at the festival. Did get the chance to sit in on her solo set, though. My, my, my! I was standing in 94 degree sun. I'm rather bronze right now because of you, Esperanza. Thanks. That's my favorite part of summer. Now, I have to add you to that, because at least each summer I'm gonna find out where you're performing and get there!

ESPERANZA IS WIN-WIN! Met her first at the Newport Jazz Festival on Aug 9. She was one of the Newport Jazz All-Stars. Imagine that! While the jazz world celebrated 50 years of Newport, here comes a peach like this with a sound equally as sweet. Such talent is rare, especially embodied in accentuated humility, integrity, grace and humor. She gets it all played; she gets it all said; she gets it all done.

Very good choices, and I'm glad to see someone thinking like I do...but how about this combo; Esperanza on the upright, Norah Jones on piano, Terri Lynn Carrington on drums, I do agree on Maysa on vocals, and how about Joyce Cooling on guitar...Prolific line up as well, I think... |
