Well, I reckon the song is being played in C# and that he is in the equivalent of open D tuned a semitone down. Great playing - nothing flashy, just full of feel.

I asked 3 of my most respected guitar playing buddies for the chords; all they could say was that it is played in G. Guess you're right, I wouldn't know as I haven't taken up open tunings yet.
