What? Country? The new stuff, no one likes! This is as country as country get's bud. This new stuff... blows, sucks... or whatever people say nowadays.

those concerts were great! it was amazing to see him go from playing in places like Riverside Ballroom with a rowdy, drunken, cowboy audience to Gammage Auditorium at ASU and the Phoenix Symphony Hall with folks wearing fancy dresses, suits and ties. i am also amazed at the wonderful old music videos posted on YouTube!

Right, that's it.
Wow, you saw them live! I am jealous! I would have loved to be on a 50s or 60s concert with Johnny and Luther... :-( But it is great to see all the wonderful footage people upload!

Actually, he was simply JR, no periods. Ray and Carrie could not agree on a name so just called him JR. Ray also called him Shoo-Doo. i have studied Cash a lot, read several books about him and saw him and Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant in 1960 at the Riverside Ballroom in Phx, AZ. i saw him in Phx on several other occasions and was fortunate enough to write a couple of concert reviews about him when i worked at The Arizona Republic. drummer WS (also no initials) Holland was nicknamed, Fluke. |
