Other great Farberinnen who also sang Kaiserin earlier in their careers were Gwyneth Jones und Eva Marton. Probably Kaiserin is the more grateful of the two roles. A bit like the difference between Chrysothemis and Elektra.

She is awakening from a nightmare where her husband is dying because of her... the reason being she cannot bear children... Although she is married to a mortal she has not become mortal yet. "Casts no shadow".
According to the "fairy-tail-principles" in a wedding of different natures, if the Fairy Princess cannot be made a real human by her husband's love... HE has to die.
At the end she (and HE) are redeemed by her capacity to love other humans... Barak and his Wife.

actually Mme. Behrens Metropolitan Opera debut was as Giorgetta in Il tabbaro in a new production of Pucinni's Il Trittico.

her interpretation was always rather intense and and interesting. we were all very excited at the met for her debut which i believe was fidelio and it was quite smashing. thanks for ur post...great choice |
