Well, if you didn't knew JK means Just Kidding. Never meant to say it as some kind of offense to anybody, but here it comes:
Well, to be honest... Have a look around youtube, how many commercials made with blender do you see? Well, lets count... 1, 2, 3, 4 maybe. Why? Becuase proffesional studios have money so that they don't have to deal with any blender shit. I know, blender is capable of alot but what morphmee says is right.

I've used both blender3d and cinema4d:
Cinema4d has nice material shaders, but rendering is slow (2gb Ram, intel Dual core) and the particle system costs extra.
Blender is free, constantly upgraded, and has a particle system built in (hair, explosions, smoke,etc). It also has a good internal renderer, uv mapping, and node editor (for compositing - which cinema4d can't do)
blender (and maya) are better

If you´re saying that 3Ds max is the mostpowerful software you´re wrong...
3ds max might be the most powerful 3D software for modelling, but c4d for example is way better on motion graphics.
Except for blender, which sucks! :P (JK)
