If anything, Vegeta trains harder than Goku (it's pretty evident throughout the series, as Vegeta's playing catch up to Goku for the majority of it).
Do you know why Vegeta did jack shit on King Kai's planet? Because there was no need.
Vegeta had already far surpassed King Kai's training, which consisted of catching Bubbles and hitting Gregory on the head with a mallet. And the planet's gravity was of no concern to him. Hell, Vegeta still could've pissed 10 feet into the air.
