This is "Have You Seen the Stars Tonite", "X-M", and "Starship", often referred to as "Blows Suite", here missing the opening "Sunrise". Of course we all know this :) Thanks for posting!

I like this guy on guitar better than chaquico on the Blows material. Chaquico is a sound technician, but this guy is more expressive and feeling.

do you got anything more specific...i'm not proficient with playing by ear

I'll tell you right now it's probably in an altered open D tuning. That's generally what Paul and David played in.

Close call with Byrds connection - Paul Kantner wrote the song in collaboration with David Crosby. "Would you like to go up on a deck..." refers to DC's sailboat. Jerry Garcia, however, made the song shine so brightly on Blows Against the Empire with his beautiful and underrated pedal steel guitar playing. It is a stunningly beautiful recording. Paul's crowning glory!

It truly does, and I believe it is because Jerry and Micket Hart collaborated with Starship on the original recording

I thought mistakenly that the Byrds did this originally. And doesn't this sound like a Dead concert if heard glancingly?
