Iraq- Ethnic Cleansing

What began as a struggle against the Occupation in Iraq has morphed into a vicious sectarian war. Over 100,000 people have been forced from their homes as Sunni and Shia turn on each other. "We are ruined, totally destroyed. And there are thousands like me!" despairs one man. He was forced from his home by Sunni militias after his son was kidnapped and killed. Now he spends his days queuing for handouts. In the refugee camps outside Baghdad, everyone has similar stories to tell. People are desperate for a real solution but even the government admits the number of displaced is increasing. "We are dealing with the consequences, not the problem," confides Mohammed Shoumali from the Ministry of Displacement. "We ask the Ministries of Defence and Interiors to stop this bloodshed." Elsewhere, Sunnis are being forced from their homes by Sunni militia. "Militias conduct armed attacks on Sunni areas," states Sheik Mokheiber Khalaf. Sunnis complain that the government refuses to help them. "The Ministry of Migration has focused on helping a certain group while ignoring the Sunnis," alleges one community leader. "We used to be brothers. Now it's become Sunni against Shia."
