Dont get me wrong, i LOVE jazz today, and we have geniouses, but Coltrane casts an enormous shadow. this song is really something else!

eggnog3- The reason that a lot of us (or me personally, anyway) get so defensive is because it's almost painful to see someone brush this stuff off as "pointless" and "meaningless." Especially the work of the man who was arguably the greatest musical mind of all time. Many of us have poured countless hours into jazz study or practice and when someone dismisses it in such a way (most likely because of their lack of understanding of it) it feels like a personal attack.

old style jazz is the shit. Modern jazz is only about playing the fastest "melodies" to the weirdest rhythms, and I call that sports, not music.
