What I always thought was something was the fact other high schools from varies parts of San Jose...Even Santa Clara schools would drive all the way across SJ just to train on the running courses at Alum Rock Park. Then again, our school would drive all the way to Vasona Park or Skyline...Right after school...Well, we were let out an hour before the school day ended. Anyone remember waking up early Saturday morning just to train @ ARP with their X-country team? Rain or shine?

I used to love running the trail waaaaay in the back of ARP (Alum Rock Park)...In the winter & fall it was alright...In summertime, one would just need to be VERY cautious of "coiled" rattlesnakes or an occassional mountain lion. The sulfer water fountain is gone?!?! Wow! Much has changed. I wonder if any of the local high schools or jr. high schools still use ARP as a training course?

i used to run cross country for leyva middle school in '98 we used to run at this park and it was hard running up those hills. but it was fun...

The sulfur water fountains are gone due to health concerns. The sulfur smell of the springs coming out of the rocks is still there, however. The sounds you hear on this video are the 'natural' sounds that are in the park. I wouldn't want anyone to think that this isn't still an urban park. ARP has plenty of quiet places off the beaten path for those are willing to hike a little so that they can enjoy a more peaceful setting.

I remember drinking fountains of....sulphur? stinky smelly....but natural...amazing! beautiful photography, perhaps sound editing would better capture the beauty of nature instead of starting out with sirens and crowds. it is a beautiful piece.

If anyone here, was a former native (or still resides) in East San Jose and ran track or cross country for any of the high schools: James Lick, Independence, Mt. Pleasant, or Piedmont...Then, I'm sure you'll remember the coaches who had us run our asses off on Course 1, 2, AND 3, as part of the training...It was no picnic! (no pun intended) Ha ha ha ha ha I remember how cold Alum Rock Park would get during winter. I loved the flow of the river during the rainfall. Yet, they were fond memories

I like Alum Rock Park, no doubt. One of the few gems in an otherwise so so place to live.
