I think a plane can fly perfectly on one engine without a problem. But I wouldn't try to go very far with it. Landing asap is required. Also a plane must make an emergency descend if they are at a high altitude. A plane on one engine can't fly as high as on two.

Don't be, pilots are trained for all these types of emergencies, and it's still the safest way to travel ;)
