August 2007 Nuclear energy is being billed as the solution to the world's energy crisis. But how viable a solution is it? We compare different countries' experiences and hear what the experts think. With 80% of its energy coming from nuclear generators, France is leading the world in nuclear power. "It is an industry that is safe and reliable", boasts scientist Jacques Debarrier. Finland too is turning to nuclear to meet its global warming commitments. Five years ago, it commissioned the building of a new reactor. It has detailed plans to safely dispose of nuclear waste and already runs four of the world's most trouble-free nuclear generators. But this new project is now 19 months behind schedule and a billion euros over budget. "Nuclear technology is very complex, expensive technology", explains nuclear advisor David Martin. Canada's nuclear reactors have also been plagued by constant faults and delays. Originally budgeted at $3.5 billion, costs soared to more than $14 billion. Scientist Frank Greening traced radioactive dust from the reactor to; "people's offices and homes". While billions has been poured into nuclear power, renewable technologies have received only a fraction of the investment needed. "If we invest in nuclear, we won't invest in the real solutions",

How can we? It's the ONLY time anyone EVER died from nuclear power.

Your name makes sense, Death will come to many more people if we shut down nuclear reactors.

We all have the power to demand an end to the threat of a Nuclear catastrophe!

US and Canadian and other countries have no problem using the same energy to power their ships and submarines, for 25 years with one refueling. That is what it is!

Canadian plant was built in 1960's. We have modernized and learned so much since. Look at France, a country much more advanced than USA; 80% of their power is nuclear powered. how it works: CONTROLLED NUCLEAR REACTION IS ORGANIZED BY THE SYSTEM AND THE HEAT PRODUCED BY IT IS USED TO HEAT UP WATER AND GIVE OFF STEAM WHICH IS HARNESSED TO TURN THE GENERATOR! The big "smoke stack" are simply ways of letting steam escape into atmosphere.

Nuclear energy opposition relates it to nuclear weapons, something USA had only used against civilian targets in Japan. Every thing we set to do may go awry, what is the point of scaring people; not educating them, but scaring them with myths about nuclear energy. How many environmental disasters have oil companies created. How about the mining sector. This video is edited to suite the nuclear opposition! Simple economies of scale would lower costs of such large projects drastically!!!

Also, the nuclear energy companies and advocates need a better spokes person, not the old French guy, who can barely speak English. It is made so that you distrust him right away!

Every American, with nationalist ties, will talk shit about nuclear, because lobbyists and big business all support oil and coal. COAl is USA biggest natural resource, electricity related. They already have plants, they can keep the whole industry american. NUCLEAR power is the one out of the FOUR true forces of nature; also found within our DNA. We must embrace something that enables our life, fusion and fission!
