Ty Cobb was a tough, mean and racist sum'bitch and I love him for it! I myself am black, but love Cobb and the way he was. He didn't give a crap about what people thought of him. Eventhough he was a mean old "racist" you got to love him for it.

Although Ty Cobb was indeed a racist (as were the vast majority of rural whites born in Georgia in 1888), more than anything he was just a nasty MF to people of all races. He was well known in baseball for sharpening his spikes before games in order to slash the hell out of opposing players who tried to tag him out. One of the most famous pictures of Cobb shows him leaping in the air to plant his spikes right in the crotch of the catcher. Therefore the song fits him perfectly.
