Still crying? Why not just give it up and admit the Steelers were the best team in the 70's...period
TheReason77 (August 15, 2008 at 3:09 pm)
The Raiders STILL were the better team!!

Dolphins ranked ahead of the Raiders in the 70's......I don't think so. It was the Raiders that ended the Dolphins 18 game winning streak early in the 1973 season. And the Raiders that ended the Dolphins 2-year reign as NFL champs with the great "Sea of Hands" victory in the 1974 playoffs. In the rematch of that game in week 1 of 1975 in Miami, the Raiders blew out the Dolphins 35-20. The Dolphins beat the Raiders only once during the early 70's in the 1973 title game.

well sure you can look at it that way. But the 3 playoff wins the Steelers had, they barely won those games. 13-7, 24-13 and 16-10. So you can't really say they were that much better in those 3 games when they could have gone either way. In contrast, the two playoff games that the Raiders won over the Steelers, Oakland BLEW Pittsburgh off the feild, 33-14 in 1973, and 24-7 in 1976.

Of 5 playoff meetings, Steelers won 3. Oh, and, 4 SB trophies out of the decade, 2 coming against that other 70s team, the Cowboys. Raiders were a nice 3rd that decade...well, maybe 4th, Dolphins would probably rank higher. But still no reason to cry.

the injuries were irrelavant. In the first game of that 1976 season, the Steelers had their full lineup on the field and the Raiders beat them in Oakland, 31-28. And early the next season in 1977, a game at Pittsburgh, again the Steelers had their full lineup and the Raiders beat them again, 16-7. That was 3 games in a row over a 12 month span, with both teams at full strength for 2 of the 3 games. Raiders were clearly the better team during that time.

nothing dope, just an opinion. An opinion........do you know what that is or is that too much of a concept for you? later dork........

The only year, 1976, the Raiders got to and won the SB throughout the 70s was the one year that the entire Steelers offensive backfield was injured for the playoffs. Ha, Ha, Ha. But one is better than none, so stop crying Raider fans and roll with the punches, the players don't even whine that much.
