what is a "natural" countertenor...is that done in full voice...if that is the case i commend you very much...i'm a baritone who constantly sings in falsetto. my question for you is can counter be done in falsetto or is it just not considered counter then?...cuz i'd love to try and i've been told i sound convincing when singing in falsetto.

Im a "natural" countertenor and i know that this is a male role and it should be sung by a male, but Marilyn Hornes version is the most amazing, her voice is just amazing i don't think there's any countertenor who sang this aria this good...maybe David Daniels...Philippe Jaroussky is an amazing amazing with coloratura but his voice is very light very child like, Rinaldo needs a big, heavy and expressive voice

Listen to Ewa Podles in this aria. Not very academic but there is something phenomenal and huge that could be compare to the castrati phenomenon.

I dissagree. Jarousky is a more of a natural baritone singing in a falsetto style. Not a natural Counter tenor. Actually there is no such thing. They are all a manufactured vioce. A true alto is i feel more of a natural tenor singer simply higher keys all the time. Anyway thats how it seems to me.

Wonderful! I love cara sposa, and sing it myself all the time!

I had the pleasure of seeing Horne perform this many times during the early 80s and she was flawless. An amazing artist. The entire performance was a spectacular exhibit of singing.

Pt. 2: The Aug. issue of Opera News supposedly is about Baroque features an article about Andreas Scholl, which is nice. Most of the articles I have read so far, however, are rather superficial do not tackle the substantive issues of Baroque voice style. Great opera houses continue to cast inappropriate voices for Baroque roles, and audiences stand and cheer. Our local critics have written uniformed even sophmoric critiques about local productions. There is much to overcome.

(for Roscieto, pt. 1) Widespread success today of a truly great, male soprano for opera would depend upon more than just the ability of the singer. There still is a sad lack of knowledge about Baroque voi blanc, timbre, and technique among today's audiences and "professionals" partially because they grew up studied in an era when Baroque was neglected. There would have to be more marketing support financial backing.

What is he found one that had true potential among many others?
