The tail end of Hurricane Gordon hits St Ives at high tide. Some of the biggest waves ever seen in Cornwall (hey, it's England - don't expect Billabong). Madam Miaow blog: http://madammiaow.blogspot.com... Website: http://www.annachen.co.uk/

There was a video someone posted that they'd taken at around the same time in Penzance. The waves were much higher and breaking right over the sea wall. So, yes, there's quite a discrepancy in conditions. Makes you realise how St Ives is nearer perfection than anyone suspected now that we can see how sheltered it is.

The waters in the habour were quite rough considering its fairly sheltered in there. You wouldn't epect big waves around some of the bays in st Ives anyway because they are quite sheltered and don't look directly out to the atlantic. I expect there were probably some big waves on the west coast, like sennen (white sands bay)?

St Ives is too crowded and To be honest not very pleasing. If you want to go somewhere disent go a bit up the road to a town called Hayle its complete pardise

That's such a pity. Which beach? I do know that, for the first time in years, dogs are allowed on the St Ives beaches during the summer, in the evening. So after 7pm the beach is filled with dogs and their owners, none of whom carried a plastic bag — and we were watching carefully! No-one I spoke to was happy with this especially as there's been no consultation over the change in the rules that anyone had heard about.
