I just grabbed the "Wise Guy/Tropical Gangster" record for 5 bucks, a damn steal. Now I need another copy so I can cut the fuck outta "No Fish Today" and "I'm Corrupt", I love those tunes.

Hi, The film The Mask was based on a character from Dark Horse Comics, and the resemblance between the 'hepcat' that Stanley Ipkiss becomes in the film and The Kid's style is based on the the zoot suited chicano's of the 1940's. I saw The Kid back in the very early 80's as well. Excellent.

This is awesome stuff !
Thanks so much for posting.
I read in the comments that this was from TV show; but it really looks like a clip from a Leisure Tour concert, in 1985-86.
Is there a chance for some other songs from that show ?

Hello there.
You love August Darnell ?
This is your day man.
If yout haven't done so yet, please check out my ever growing published videos, and tell me if anything comes closer to heaven...
Have fun...and I confirm that seeing the band live in eighties was a musical life changing experience...

What an energy! What a show! This is so brilliant.August Darnell is just a genius. The whole concept of 'race music'with the zoot suits, the hot and kitsch dance routines of the Coconuts,Coati Mundi as the funny sidekick and great percussionist is just awesome.I love the theatrical side of their performances.I wish i could've seen them live back in time.Sigh!. |
