http://www.mediaed.org Jean Kilbourne's award-winning video offers an in-depth analysis of how female bodies are depicted in advertising images and the devastating effects of those images on women's health. Addressing the relationship between these images and the obsession of girls and women with dieting and thinness, Slim Hopes offers a new way to think about life-threatening eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, and a well-documented critical perspective on the social impact of advertising. Slim Hopes is a lively and engaging program suitable for a wide range of audiences at high schools, colleges and universities. Using over 150 ads, it informs as it entertains, allowing viewers to build an analytic framework for considering the impact of advertising on women's health.

there is a new peer-to-peer network called Global Herald Network that let people advertise to peers all around the world regarding anything directly from their desktop. The name of the software is Herald.

I would also point out, once again, that more deaths occur every year by diabetes than occur by anorexia. You can look it up. Is every case of anorexia a tragedy? To be certain, but let's not pretend that going to the other extreme and becoming obese (which I will observe a surprising number of radical feminists are...which leads me to conclude that jealousy fuels much of the unusual amount of anger they project) isn't just as dangerous.

I know, but unfortunately this forum seems to be taken over by people who are less concerned with solving the problems with ED's and more concerned with using this forum as their personal therapy session. I guess they're not teaching about the First Amendment much lately. I have extended my invitation to ChallengingMedia to remove all my comments, as they have the ability to do, if they think my words are sufficiently dangerous to anyone that they should be removed. Hasn't happened!
Brainsnap (July 12, 2008 at 10:16 pm)
I'm agreeing with you. This is a lot of unsubstatiated bullshit.
MyNameIsMissyS (July 3, 2008 at 1:09 pm)
So I will end by saying, if ChallengingMedia thinks my comments are so beyond the pale and/or dangerous, they are welcome to remove them. However, if they believe in free speech and welcome differing points of view, I suspect they will not do so. I wish you well with your recovery, Ana, but I hope that in your recovery you are not exploited by those with hidden agendas. Cheers!

I am simply offering an alternative point of view that, for whatever reason, caused you to go postal. I hate to break it to you, but this is a public forum, NOT your own personal therapy session. Freedom of thought and speech. But bottom line: Unlike most rad fems, I have a husband and a job. I have no time for this nonsense. It's cut too far into my time already.
MyNameIsMissyS (July 3, 2008 at 1:02 pm)
Well, when you get a little older, Ana, hopefully you'll be able to reason better. I mean, when I was 22 I had a pretty self-absorbed view of the world too. Then I grew up. Re-read your comments and place my comments in context. That will tell a lot. Your pal claude has still yet to provide me with the research to prove her point. Instead, she throws harsh language around guaranteed to stir emotions. That's how radical feminists operate.

(part 2) this debate without more of those personal insults I'd be happy to, but since your school yard mentality will probably chalk it up to me being either outwitted by you or afraid of you I doubt you would be able to continue this without sinking to that level again. I wish you well Missy and I hope you learn someday that we are not your enemy and it is not necessary to treat us like we are. I hope you learn to get rid of all that hate and anger inside of you, sweetie. *hugs*
AnaMiaSucks (July 3, 2008 at 12:30 am)
It's really sad when a woman who is nearly 40 can't have a discussion without sinking to the condescending and insulting school yard antics that you have employed: "since you probably got your degree in women's studies, I'll help you out a bit" "I really hate to tell you this, because I know you probably can't handle it" "I'll use small words to explain it to your dumb little ass" "I should surrender my life to listening to sobbing sisters like AnaMiaSucks" If you'd like to continue(pt 1)
