This is a COMPILATION of several computer generated videos made by a company called Triple I (short for Information International Incorporated) that was shown to Disney Executives to convince them a movie called "Tron" could be made. Part of a Mercedes commercial, the famous Utah Teapot, and several other well known short videos can be seen. The video was shown to Disney in 1981 and the movie was released in 1982.

Well alot of it stems from the fact that many of the first CG was done by programmers and computer companies. You have to realize that Pixar itself (after splitting from Lucas Films) was a computer manufacture that made its early shorts to showcase its computer system that was marketed manly to hospitals as a 3D visualization machine. Pixar didn't go commercial till the 90's with a lifesavers commercial. So Hollywood is seeing it by when it started to care.

I keep reading how rare this stuff was in tv and film in the 70's and 80's. Robert Abel & Associates were making a killing in tv commercials, so I guess they were to too busy getting rich to let people know how it was being done. There's barely any info about the real pioneers of CGI on the net, and it appears even Hollywood states that it got going in the 90's (lies).
