Billhooks - a tool with a hooked blade, used for chopping. A cross between an axe and knife for cutting undergrowth etc. This would be available to buy in a hardware shop such as in the sketch. This was obviously chosen by Ronnie B (who wrote the sketch as Gerald Wiley) as it insinuated the swear word b*ll*cks. Without actually saying the word itself it becomes a lot funnier as we all know what is insinuated.
Ronnie B loved playing around with the english sandwich(language).

Ronnie Barker was usually the one that made the sketches funny but on this occasion Ronnie Corbett stole the show IMO.

the ending was ment to be"bollocks"but the taller Ronnie did admit later that it was(in his words)no good..and he came up with a funnier one live!
They had a Busty Lass come on at the end to say"ok Sir...what kind of Knockers are you after??!"

This sketch is probably older than me but it's STILL funny after all these years.
Additionally, i am lucky enough to live near an old-fashioned ironmongers where you can buy one nail if that's all you need & don't have to buy ten with loads of plastic packaging. Irrelevant i know... |
