The Lufthansa Airbus 320 (flight LH44) from Munich experienced wingstrike while landing at Hamburg on 1 March 2008 during Emma storm. Nobody was injured; the plane landed using another runway.

3. Only other comment is that in a strong cross wind you do carrier landings. You don't try to float it on. Granted you can't crash a heavy but you can't afford to float it on either.

2. But at touchdown the aircraft is as much flying as it is rolling and so you have to immediately put the aileron back into the wind to keep the wing from lifting up. He didn't do that. He either failed to put the needed aileron input or went the wrong way. That is when the wing lifted up and the real fun began. They did a good job of recovering the crisis but without a doubt, the crisis was self-inflicted. There is no guess in my answer.

1. I was a USAF instructor pilot for three years. He screwed up the landing. He was doing everything right until after he touched down. When you land in a strong crosswind you have to land with 'aileron into the wind'. In this case that means 'right wing low'. Just as you touch down, you stomp on the rudder to align the nose (which you will see he correctly did). Continued...
