At this place, in 1934 is where John Dillinger, Public Enemy #1 watched his last film "Manhattan Melodrama". Melvin Purvis and other agents stationed outside were ready to get him. Once Dillinger exited he walked toward the alley and Purvis called out. Dillinger reached for his gun when he was shot 2 times. He fell on to the ground and died shortly thereafter a few feet away from the entrance of the theater which still stands.
