It was also about keeping our country as one. A great many of the southerners would disagree that it was about slavery at all. Many of them simply fought for their homeland.

Please people...take heed. Do not judge a people by its government...and do not judge my fellow soldiers by our gov. or those extremely few fools at Abu G. Us USA soldiers are like these two...we love our Country, its people and its beauty. Everyone knows its not perfect...but do not HATE. Capture/kill those who just want to see life burn...! That is why we will win...they have no alternative.

The ONLY war of liberation? Tell that to the French people in Normandy who still remember WWII, or survivors of the Holocaust, or tell that to the people in South Korea who WOULD be under the communists if the U.S. and other UN Forces hadn't intervened almost sixty years ago. Also, freeing the slaves wasn't the ONLY issue at stake with the Civil War.

those 2 should've gotten oscars for this movie. they were great. jeff daniels is such a good actor. he can play ANY type of roll or character and play it well. he's not like jean claude van damme who is pretty much the same character in every movie he's in. daniels can do a wide range of rolls.
