Yeah, she was great, but in this vidio, frankly she's terrible. She wobbles on pointe, her jetes in her first variation were not even close to being at 180, and in the passes she's a little slow.

Gelsey kirkland is the best ever! She matches Misha's technique and artistry. The other female dancers are nowhere near her caliber. Check out the others dancing the same Don Quixote on Youtube. No comparison.

Baryshnikov is, as always, perfection. Gelsey, however, is not at her best here. Though a brilliant dancer more often than not, especially Coppelia and/or Giselle, she was crippled by anorexia and a cocaine addiction at the time this was recorded. She's too frail and painfully thin and struggles to keep her balance en point. Love the dancer, not terribly fond of this performance, though.

Look at that plaid curtain!! It makes me sad how sick she was. It shows the full effect of sickness on dancing.

gelsey kirkland was definitely at the peak of her cocaine addiction and anorexia during this performance. she was most likely drugged up during this one you can tell. it's very said. but baryshnikov was amazing as usual.

She really makes a dance out of those hops on pointe in her variation: it's like a folk-dance set on pointe (pretty much the Pony:pas de basque, pas de basque, hop hop), and though she makes it delicate, it's still got the rhythm that makes it dance-y -- She's great, really great dancer.
