Horrid interpretation, almost as rushed as Karajan's 62 one (barely 32 minutes long.), he never really understood that one, not only does he drown out much of the polyphony (as usual) through overstaffing, but it's also way too fast, the especially the first movement, the phrasing is bland - if you want to hear a quality Pastorale, get the classic Karl Böhm/VPO recording - where Karajan rushes past the landscape with his Porsche, Böhm takes time to appreciate every detail of Beethoven's genius.

try you and two more friends do same thing at the same time. now, figure out how 30, 40, 50 people can arrange themselve at the proper time if they do not see each other -as the all are facin the CONDUCTOR. maybe now you can understand a little its importance=)

He's called the conductor. His primary job is to provide a tempo for everyone in the orchestra to adhere to, producing a more synchronised overall sound. They also signal dynamics and articulation changes that need to be made to improve the quality of the sound and performance.

i don't want to change the topic because i enjoyed what the two of you said, but being new to classical music i feel the need to finally have a clear answer to the question, what is the purpose of a director if thats what its called (the man who doesn't play and instrument but waves his wand around like hes having a seizure) if the musicians have the sheets written before them then what does a director do

Thanks for your comment. A philistine is a person who does not appreciate art and culture. |
