Also, I believe Freddie knew he was going to be on national TV for this performance and didn't want to "lower" the notes: So he probably rested his voice after "The Works Tour" until the days before Live AID so he could hit 100% of the high notes. (Just listen to We are the champions here, he maintained the high register during the chorus and didn't need roger to do it!)

I agree with everything you just said.
If you compare the line "Rich or poor, or famous, for your truth is all the same" here, to a year later at wembley, he hits the high A's and B's, but drops them to D's and E's at wembley.
