My dad has a 1970 GTO with this option. Pretty cool. He never bought the mufflers after the originals wore out. They were super expensive to replace back in the day even. He still has his switch and everything else is stock on his car.

from what i read thur a variety of speculation, and maybe i'm wrong, but the reason they deleted the option was based on the commercial that was televised. Pontiac put the "humbler" commercial on tv under GM's nose and once they noticed what was pontiac trying to invoke (drag racing), they quickly pulled the commercial off the air and canned the option. They knew that this won't fly with the Feds or the insurance agencies since GM was trying keep their image clean from street racing.

called the "Tiger Button" by Pontiac. Only offered in '70. Was going to be produced in '71 and '72 but was scrapped, i can't remember why.
