If I remember correctly this is the piece in which P. Tchaikovsky said he put all of his mind, body, heart and soul into, Sure does sound like it. This is Romanticism at its best.

I liked the parts between 0:00-9:40

I agree with marklavar. Such an outpouring of passion. Any interpretation that properly portrays the agony of Peter Ilyich is good enough for me. The gong (at 7:07) never fails to bring me out in goosebumps - was this when the composer concluded that everything was hopeless after all? A music student I knew once said to me with feeling: "he must have felt SO unhappy".

Great performance of the most moving piece of music ever written.

Von K and his musicians are producing tones, making sounds, going through the motions but without much investment. For a radical re-interp, check out the often maligned Bernstein/NY Phil; that 4th movmt runs 17 minutes to Von K's 10. Its agony, as I hear it, is Peter Illyich's.

After playing bass drum in the 3rd mvt, a percussionist usually switches to the gong in the 4th movement. Equally nerve-racking... Lots of waiting for a really important entrance (7:05 in this vid). The best part about being a percussionist are the tacet movements when you just get to "enjoy" the performance. I would love to have played in this orchestra in this piece. Well, if I had the chops, anyway! LOL... Sitting out the 1st and 2nd mvts while being wrapped in this sound would be heavenly!

Es cierto... hay partes que la orquesta puede dar mucho mas y perfeccionar esos pequeños detalles. BUENA CRÍTICA!!!!

IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS! I first saw this historic video back in 1980 and it still gives me goosebumps.
