there is a thing called efficiency in scale. a big engine can be more efficient than two engines that sum the same output of the big one. even if the power plants contaminate to generate electricity, the contamination should be less than the generated by the equivalent petrol engines to generate the same amount of power as the electric ones. if we wait till all conditions are perfect and do not start with little steps, we may kept waiting

Zero emissions for cars, okay. But for powerplants, how about that?
randomusernamemygod (November 8, 2007 at 9:52 pm)
To power stations to make the electricity.
randomusernamemygod (November 8, 2007 at 9:50 pm)
so you divert emissions from your car to the power stations giving the world no change.

anyone thinking elec motors on the wheels dont work should look at any freight train engine, there's one on every wheel. and when the polarity is reversed, they act as brakes.

The idea of having motors inside the wheel sis silly - made popular by... popular mechanics.
having small unsuspended mass (rim, break disk, suspension) is imperative for good handling and road contact. Even if you lose some space putting the motor within the frame of the car and having trans axles is much more likely and clever way of doing it. |
