PONCA CITY - KAW DAM AFTER FLOOD RAINS PART 2
KAW DAM PART 2 of 2 ---
With lake levels sitting at 1,046.05 feet Kaw Dam officials opened all 8 gates 3 feet each. They are releasing about 44,000 cubic feet of water per second. Kaw Lake is over 36 feet above its normal level. The 2 gates seen to the far right of the dam, the eastern side, shows even more water discharging since the edge seals on those two gates have yet to be retrofitted with the new seals like the first 6 gates have. Dam officials said they are waiting on the funding to return to finish those two. This does not represent a threat of any kind and has been like this for years.

That overthe side spillage occurs alot on some of the Wisconsin River dams in Wisconsin. People get so worried about it, not realizing that it is normal for water to push past the sides of the gates, even in normal water level conditions. |
