Yes, I seem to remember him (WC) pursuing his military career (cavalry?)about the time of the Boer wars in Africa. He must have been similar in age to Petain, who was nearly ready for military retirement when he was pressed into service during WWI.

He,(Churchill) was in his sixties during WW2,i read that he did not have an alcohol problem,i think in this PC world, that drinking is now not acceptable, but his speech was slurred, because he had an impediment, called "cluttering" I just wish we had leaders like him today,,but that era has gone forever.

There is no doubt that Winston Churchill made great contributions to his nation, alliance and world. You are right, of course, that historical review of his actions can be flawed. He is a hard character for whom to make account; if his moodiness, acerbity and (consequent?) use of alcohol to ease his struggles are true, his was certainly not an easy course to sail. When I see pictures of him seated with Stalin and Eisenhower I cannot imagine a more difficult meeting of the minds.

I,m not sure we would have made it without the USA-i dont know why people are against them, they did their bit when neccessary, afer all,it was not their war,it was europes, why would they get involved.?
