wikipedia isn't a good source but it does contain some truth. students from many schools back then( not just japan) picked fights usually cause they were foolish and wanted to try new techniques out

Also to add... he did take judo. He quit his fathers style of judo even though he was a black belt and joined aikido. Also in demos things are exaggerated. However.. even though a person might not fall in one hit just like his videos... Masters in mostly all styles no youyr ready to do another technique. the flips are usually just demo stuff. In my studio we did some kind of aikido technique... we didn't flip but we ended up going to the ground in pain.

and don't judge Shioda Gozo saying his stuff won't work. Read the history and you will learn he actually used his techniques on the street on many occasions and sometimes actually the picked fights with local gang members. I guess his techniues do work because if it had not helped him back then then I don't think he would be teaching it now.

I don't take Aikido...but i know it works. People don't believe it because of the unreal looking flips. THaT'S TRUE THE FLIPS AREN'T GOING TO LOOK ALL FANCY AND COOL LIKE THAT IN REAL LIFE. THe people who do the flips are trainned aikido masters who are trainned to follow the flow. They rather flip and land without hurting themselves then take a broken wrist or arm.(wouldn't you)
