SO here is what may seem like a stupid question...but is OFC ruleless? Does it actually represent "real" street fighting? Why are so many people hung up on "if it is not seen in UFC then it must be no good?" My understanding (and it is admititly limited) was that UFC does have rules and that small jount locks as done in Aikido are forbidden. I am not trying to stir the pot here, I am asking a legitimate question.

There is always people who does not know the difference of real fighting and martial arts. This is demonstration of martial arts, not like UFC and other fighting match. In martial arts, people pursue the way to be the master of the arts. In UFC and other fighting match, people pursue the way to win others on their rule. Please don't mix it up.

another thing is he is about 60-70 on this video, so if he would engage some your fight in age 60-70 he would crush him. And again he is not fighting in the video, he is only showing some principles. in real situation he would fight differently i think.

Your ignorant if you this shit has any effect in a real fight against an above average fighter. Its pure nonsense Lets see one of them enter the UFC and demonstarte how effective it is.

It comes down to one thing and one thing only. Could he do this stuff or look after himself against an above average fighter hell bent on his destruction, Im sorry to rain on your parade but if he tried the stuff in this video, he would get battered to a pulp.

I have never seen anyone in my life so ignorant of martial arts. DO you think Sensei Shioda couldn't maim any of his students in a real fight? You just don't get it at all.
Kenshincz (August 25, 2008 at 4:21 pm)
acquiesce100: Man you dont get it. This is not simulation of fight, its demonstration and teaching of some principles of aikido. So thats why the uke cooperates, to get to the position where the sensei can demonstrate what he wanted. Of course in a real fight and about 40 years backs it would be about something else, he would be hard opponent. Moreover these direct students of Osensei were trained in more martial arts and technicks(like where are vital points, how to strike them)=he was hard foe

What people usually forget is that BJJ works in one on one fights.

Get a Yoshinkan guy to enter the UFC and lets see what happens. The Yoshinkan guy would last about 5 seconds if that. They may train hard but their attacks are unrealistic and pathetic and would hold no weight to an "above average" fighter. Type in "hiroshi Isoyama" and watch his demo from the 1983 all japan aiki demo, that is a realistic Aikido demonstration.

The Yoshinkan teaches a 1 year course that is mandatory for the Tokyo Riot Police. One of your compatriots, Robert Twigger did it and wrote a book about that course "Angry White Pyjamas" - If you read it you might understand why Yoshinkan has a reputation of a hard aikido style. In my day I have done my fair share of wrestling, kickboxing etc. as well as bogus martial arts. Yoshinkan Aikido - when taught by somebody that knows their stuff is the real deal. Check it out - it might surprise you.
