all this talk about Italian-Americans calling sauce "gravy". I am 2nd gen. southern Italian, grew up in the NY metro area and we always said "sauce"....according to my mamma only "gaffones" called it "gravy" LOL sorry!

I am the son of a n American but brought up in England & I was treated like dirt by Anglo-Italians because I was half American in England,{ipswich,suffolk} & I am a practising,devoted Catholic,I felt humiliated & upset especially as the locals were jubilant that Italian women despised me & called me American trash.

No such word for gravy in the Italian language. The Italian word for sauce is Salsa.

Sigh...........
How wonderful it was to go back in time and remember my youth. I was raised by an Italian mother and Irish father and I am very grateful for the traditions and culture they passed down to me.
You guys with the negative comments are miserable people.
