It is unbelievable how the non-musical rappers get the stardom they get. No music at all. I loved disco made by "black" people in the seventies but hate most of what they're doing now.

I am a big Petty fan but his career took an obvious upturn when he joined the Wilburys and he and Mr. Lynne penned the song, Free Fallin'. That one song put him at a whole other level. He too is in the RnR HoF.

And yes ELO/Jeff Lynne definitely belong there. If the Pretenders can get in then there is no question that ELO is more than worthy.
I am also partial to Emerson Lake and Palmer and while they didn't have the big hits like other groups, they set the standard for prog-rock and Emerson's work influenced every other keyboard player that came along after that.

Damn British accent! I got out my CD and cranked it up and it does sound like "friends and lovers" when played very loud.
One of my favorite lines in any song. His voice just seems to resonate at that point.

Quote : "Why Jeff Lynne and ELO hasn't been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame just goes to show how influential the media critics are in telling us what to buy and who to listen to".
So true, most media critics wouldn't recognise a good song if it hit them straight in the eye.
it's the same everywhere...over here we get the same musical crap on mtv & tmf day after day - and "they" just keep on repeating " how marvelous that is...

actually it's "friends and lovers too." Still powerful.

One of my favorite ELO tunes. Great opening guitar riff and strong vocals by Lynne. The line "what can you do, when your dream world is gone, and your friends have left us too" is very powerful.

Some of you idiots need to stop quoting the media critics. 98.9% of the stuff Jeff Lynne has anything to do with is absolute genius!! . I was weened on the Moody Blues, Deep Purple and the Allman Brothers. Why Jeff Lynne and ELO hasn't been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame just goes to show how influential the media critics are in telling us what to buy and who to listen to. I do not listen to the media critics I listen to the music.

One of the better songs from the Eldorado Album. Good concept too. Made them big in the USA you know.
Nice vid too, what with the Indians and a Tornado.
