Hey lanniia: you got the translated Italian lyrics? Hope you read the article. You can see it wasn't a competition and it wasn't about putting down women either. Pavarotti actually fell inlove with Brown's music and chose that number. Look how beautifully they complement each other, and share views on genderoles. The song is over three decades old, so back then JB could say "This is a man's world" without a doubt. Of course some would say things are still the same...
