This is a revision to previously posted videos. I was fortunate enough to go to the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake IA and speak firsthand with many who were there including Tommy Allsup who flipped the coin with Ritchie Valens. This version corrects some factual errors and includes new footage from the SURF

Don McLean is one of the greatest singer/guitarists ever in my opinion. Others may not agree, but I've grown up with this song, I can play it on the guitar and I know all the words. It touches my heart every time I hear him sing it.... Go Don!

I love this song. None of my freinds do though.... This song reminds me of my freind Andy because it's so sad. Andy died in a ski accident. =( I've probably already listened to this song five times today.

i thought it was a reference to america landing on the moon and breaking the barrier of space exploration in general. which happened in the 60s, generally as did the other events in the songs.

Generation lost in space is a reference to the show Lost In Space.

i agree with all of those parallels excepty maybe one when it says "the three men i admire most" you put jfk, bobby, and mlk i think it might be hank williams, elvis presley, and buddy holly...just a suggestion im not sure if its true but oh well.
