Don McLean is one of the greatest singer/guitarists ever in my opinion. Others may not agree, but I've grown up with this song, I can play it on the guitar and I know all the words. It touches my heart every time I hear him sing it.... Go Don!

This song reminds me of my freind Andy because it's so sad. Andy died in a ski accident. =(

i thought it was a reference to america landing on the moon and breaking the barrier of space exploration in general. which happened in the 60s, generally as did the other events in the songs.

this is amazing ive liked this song since i wasabout 13 and now im 16 and im starting to listen to music to get the messages not to jsut listen to it and this is amazing that he can put all of thses things into this song and this shows how music truely is poetry.

excepty maybe one when it says "the three men i admire most" you put jfk, bobby, and mlk
i think it might be hank williams, elvis presley, and buddy holly...just a suggestion im not sure if its true but oh well.
