I aint from NYC but I started going there as a kid, then better yet as a teen in '94 right before Giulianification took effect. I been back probably 14 times and while the city's cleaned up and got more expensive, it's still New York. This happens to all cities, but all cities aren't New York. I'll take the current NYC over any city in the world.

Lou Reed is the man. As an old New Yorker his music speaks to me about how NYC used to be...

I grew up in Brooklyn and Queens and now whenever I go back there to visit my family I'm still amazed at how much cleaner and safer the city has become since the eighties when I was growing up. There are less drugs, less gangs and less prostitutes than there used to be and I have to say that with the disappearance of these seedy things the distinct flavor that made up what was NYC is gone. But hey, the place is still a nostalgia trip for me even if it is pretty different now. |
