Beatles influenced BIG time! Even Rickenbacker giutars! Majority of the giutar chords played low on the neck...the best way!

i love the fact that stipe is supposed to be the frontman of the band, yet he hides away behind peter out of shot from the camera... just shows how shy he realy was..

This is when they were the Beatles of college radio. I was at their first in-store appearance in Carbondale, Illinois in 1982. I had just bought the record (Chronic Town) because the ad for it in Trouser Press had that gargoyle that I thought was so cool. My band at the time learned Gardening at Night and Boxcars, which we were playing when I met them in Plaza Racords.
