but you can tell by looking he's just not comfortable with it....I love his style back then too...straight and powerful, not that it isn't cool now, but he tends to stray from the beat a lot now..

Pasted from a post below: He played matched for a period; this was that period. He used both for a while and switched back fully to traditional in the late 80s. By the Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship Concert he had made the switch to traditional.

I'm sorry, but I still 'gotta say, I love the reference to Vinnie and porn. And yes, I know he would hate that, being a born-again Christian, God bless'm! I DON'T watch porn, but the rawness, the presentness, of vinnie's solos is so immediate, it's like watching sex, or electricity happening. It's completely viceral and immmediate, like an .....! Just amazing. What a gift to music. We're lucky to be witnessing it. I hope you all have the opportunity to see him play live. It's even Better!

Vinnie DOES kinda look porn-ish with that Stach', but like Ron Jeremy he pulls it off. Playing like that, Vinnie could come out wearing a dress and still be worshipped. The man is not from this planet. Listen to his playing with Holdsworth or the Zappa stuff he did : you will either want to practice your ass off, or you will want to quit!
