now the obvious question, why didnt they engineer flaps on the Concorde?

This airplane can't land at low speed, cause he do not have flaps so he must pitch up serious to land normaly.
Zadster (August 30, 2008 at 8:29 pm)
Pretty much, yes. Even the new generation fighters (Eurofighter etc) can only sustain M2.0, which means that even if it took off slightly in front as Concorde passed over, it could never catch it.

Yes and no. BA were making a very nice profit from Concorde indeed. Paris-NY was always a bit of a stretch for AF, and when the new tanks went in, they had to fly at reduced capacity, making it unprofitable for AF. Guess which country Airbus (the people who maintained Concorde) are in? Lots of hidden politics going on there.

so a commercial passenger jet can do a sustained Mach 2.0, and the purpose built SR-71, the all out fastest military plane ever created, can only do Mach 3?

The concorde wings do not have flaps, which give extra lift when airspeed is low. So, without an extra lift agent, the concorde has to pull up its nose a lot so it slows down when landing.
sashh87 (August 27, 2008 at 9:20 pm)
that´s quite simple. every aircraft tries to fly als slow as possible during landing, especially during flare out. conventional aircrafts produces lift by the vaulty wing´s profile. the concord has only two possibilities to produce lift. on is speed and the other is pitch(angle of attack), because their wing is nothing else than a tabletop, producing lift*gg* that´s why they have to pull that much! hope everbody understands what i mean
manchesterbob92 (August 27, 2008 at 4:52 pm)
why does the concorde pull up so much when landing compared to other planes???? thnkas

shit, does anyone know why YT places the comments in the top instead of as replies? :/
