That actually brought tears to my eyes. I truly hope to god his dream lives on and on until recycled homes are built in every country, for ALL people. It's a win/win idea - great for the working poor AND the environment. Absolutely remarkable man.

I've known Dan Phillips, PhD going on 30 years. He is just as amazing and genuine as you see here. He has been an accomplished professor/chorographer of Dance at Sam Houston State University. He also has refinished antique furniture and built hidden jewelry storage boxes and rooms. There is so much more about Dan Phillips, but where do I begin... I am glad this feature was able to capture just some of the marvel of him.

My husband and I live on ten acres in a fairly large house that we got several years ago. It was definately a "God thing". The house was run down from sitting vacant, but over the years we have fixed it up with mostly throw away materials from other people. Some of the items we've gotten free: drywall, fencing, paint, block, wood, metal sheeting, fireplace insert, bathtub, complete kitchen solid oak cabinitry and counters, etc. We're solar powered with a well. Awesome. Takes patience tho.

My DH and I built our own house, in baby steps as we could afford it, When I say we built....I mean us..no one else, no contractor...I even had to help him do the rafters,,,,and do the sheetrock...but we did it...you just have to believe you can and things come along that you need..start where you are,,,,we bought land on time as the firs step and worked on week-ends to build the house...started small and added on...yes you can...we were almost flat broke at the time.

georgewu5, What are you talking about? All of Dan Phillips' houses are built in accordance with Texas state buildings codes and with the cooperation of the local Building Inspector. And yes, they do have electricity from the utility company.
As for money, didn't you hear the part where Dan said he only works with people who have a job?
Next time try watching a video before you post a comment. It works better that way.
