Palin claims to be but is not a feminist and is not determined to improve women's place in the world. She believes that women have the same opportunities as men. As Joss says, the very fact that he is being asked about writing strong females shows that men and women do not yet have equality. The casual attitude towards feminism an women's rights is another threat to women. A person's gender does not determine whether or not they are a feminist. This is perfectly exemplified by Joss, a feminist.

Phoenixatom does have a valid point. Has anyone here watched a lot of anime? If you have, you'll notice that very rarely will a 'strong woman' ever win and complete a fight. If they do, then the adversary was never truly defeated. On the rare occasion that a woman does defeat someone, then she's scantily clad and sexualized. Pheonix's comment may or may not apply to buffy--but it applies to a LOT of of what we take in from the media.

This is an amazing speech. Joss Whedon is officially one of my heroes, as he GETS it. Equality IS something that we NEED, not something that would be nice soon.

No; she may be a woman, but many of the things she supports are NOT good for women's rights. She's a woman, but not for women's rights. So, as a feminist, I could never vote for her. This is why McCain chose Palin, even though she's highly inadequate to be VP. Because he thinks women are dumb enough to vote just because she's a woman. Not voting for the McCain ticket will show that we're not dumb.

hey everyone dont you just think that sarah palin is great, being a woman and a possible vice president! joss has been campaigning for strong women for years and isn't it great to see a strong woman running for the vice presidency? I think so what do you guys think?

Joss Wheadon is awesome. I'd argue he's one of this generation's best writers.

It was this speech that made me truly appreciate Joss Whedon. I was always a fan of his work, but this made me a fan of him as a person.

Simply amazing. The very last bit of this speech rings so true and it hits home really hard. I hope he knows how much of a difference he's making.
