Have you looked at the symbol tutorial that I have posted on my crochet blog for this square? It is hard for me to say what is happening without seeing an image of your square. You could be crocheting to tight in some places or missing increases.

HI, OK I am following the directions ,but my square is not square enough. It's like a round kinda square if you know qhat I mean. Can you tell me what I'm skipping?

I have three tutorials of the traditional granny square. The solid square is solid stitches across the square. The traditional granny is worked in groups of stitches with spaces between each group creating open spaces or holes in the square. |
