Actually, he always said he was a bad painter. He said he wished he could paint as well as Raphael and Vermeer.

Actually, Dali wasn't at all modest. In fact he proclaimed himself an artistic genius. One of his most famous quotes goes; "every morning upon awakening, I experience a supreme pleasure: that of being Salvador Dalí."
