The United Nations African Mission in Darfur has been touted as the largest peacekeeping operation the UN has ever undertaken. But six months after forming, the joint force is suffering from a shortage of troops and a lack of equipment. Furthermore, authorities are threatening to expel them if the International Criminal Court indicts Omar al-Bashir, the Sudanese president, for alleged crimes committed in Darfur. Mohammed Adow joined a group of peacekeepers on patrol in Southern Darfur.

greetings! UNAMID is runned by the UN, but it seemes that the most troops are from africa. Before UNAMID there was the AU troop AMIS (maybe its the same soldiers and just a new name?) what i would say, is that today the most of the UN Soldiers are provided by the so called third world. but the money comes from the wealthier countries. many poor nations (like bangladesh) are financieng their own armies whith such missions. i would wonder if its different in africa.

I don't think so AU was started by African countries and they are the one's who sponsor AU.

yh I agree with you completely, China is a doing a much appreciated job here in Sudan, much better than what the Americans have ever done, the sudanese people even have much greater respect for the Chinese, as they actually came and helped us build bridges and road unlike the fucking Americans

The peace keepers looks like AU, not UN. I heard only a few UN troops are in Darfur and alot of AU troops are in Darfur. I'm not sure though.

Security will not come to Darfur until more UN peacekeepers are sent to Darfur and the UN cannot afford to arrest President Bashir until there is security for Darfur.
