Dust comes from brake shoes, steel rail contact and electrical contactors/motor brushes. I wonder if brake shoes used still contain ASBESTOS as in the past!!! This dust combo stays in tunnel to be puked (picked up) by trainset HVAC system 'fresh air intake.'

Eat your heart out mates. NYC subway cars have TWO HVAC systems that maintain 72'temperature in new pressurised cars with banks of air filters changed out upon every inspection and they come out DIRTY with a nasty dust like copier toner For just two bucks you can run all 740 miles of active trackage 24/7 till you exit. Newest rebuilt station is Stillson Avenue in Coney Island BROOKLYN with a photovoltaic roof that powers ventilation fans. BTW:cars use AC tractiomotors and composite brake shoes

I would never make such a brash insinuation as to say we invented everything we take for granted (though some Americans might disagree with me). Credit is definitely due to the U.K. for certain inventions and creations which influence our lives for the better. I would also like to thank you for calling me "sagacious." It's rare to hear anyone use such words anymore.

No I was merely speaking of its existence as a geographical entity terming, perhaps inaccurately, inhabitants of that entity as British. Although I respect your sagacious nature I do also believe you knew what I meant. No I don't think it is 'ridiculous' as an educated guess and no more; but truly I was simply pointing out orientalsonacid's willingness to jump to conclusions. You must accept that the U.S.A. did not invent 'everything' we take for granted?

London underground are utter rip off merchnats true but they reason they have not got underground air con there is its out of the EU carbon ommistion guidlines, the amount of pollution from that would triple the output for london....not good

what a great idea , they treat us like crap , ive almost died in there sweating my nuts off with my face pressed against the glass for an hour while they shut the track down , they would also be good for accidentally slapping pissed people with that read the paper over your shoulder
