The Jazz Icons: Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers DVD, released Sept. 26, 2006, features what many consider to be one of the finest line-ups in the history of jazz—Art Blakey (Drums), Bobby Timmons (Piano), Jymie Merritt (Bass), Benny Golson (Sax) and the legendary trumpet player, Lee Morgan. Lost for nearly 50 years, this historic 55-minute concert, filmed in Belgium in 1958, one month to the day after they recorded their masterpiece Moanin', is the only known visual document of this influential band who were together for only six months. great video.too bad I wasnt around to see these early shows, but my uncles were.still rememeber them telling me that these cats played their hearts out and sounded good.all the jazz messengers past to their present. How art blakey(buhaina) knew how to drop the bomb, you would have to cover your ears on his press rolls, lee morgans bell sonding some what like cliffrd brown, bobby timons soulful piano, jymie merritts anchor bass playing(he onced played with bb king)and benny golsons tight compostitions
