Hudson should be, and I sure she is, proud to even be mentioned, much less compared to Holliday. I picked Hudson, but Holliday laid a foundation that even Whitney couldn't touch because Houston wasn't feeling the scene. Imagine being Hudson. You won an Oscar and you're being compared to two of the greatest voices to ever hit a note. That like one of us being compared to Michael Jordan or Larry Bird. Just to be mentioned in the same breath would do me good.

I grew up on Holliday singing the song and I never thought in a thousand years that anyone could touch her. I lover her version, . . . but she oversung it and I didn't know this until I saw Hudson's version on screen. Also, Jennifer Hudson made you believe Effie White was being dumped. You felt it down to your spine. Holliday's voice is just so strong. Hudson didn't try to do "Holliday." She sang the song from the POV of Effie White having her heart kicked in. Mad props to both sistas.

Jennifer Holiday was the woman, no doubt about it. I remember the first time I heard her version on the radio and it reached down to my very soul listening to her sing this song. You can not teach what she had. That was what Soul was all about. That was someone bring everything to the song and not holding one thing back. Gods I wish I had heard her sing this in person, it would have been a memory i would have cherished.

I know, hearing both of these big, beautiful, strong voiced women singing with such passion and heartfelt emotion makes me cry too. It's no doubt who the queens are and whom really owns the song. Jennifer Holiday led the way for Jennifer Hudson. Both deserve the utmost respect and praise because both versions are excellent. Love them both and they do it better than Whitney, because they sing it with emotion and talent, not just because they can hit the notes.

..and why am I sitting here crying? Both of these women have me shook. I grew up on the J. Holliday version and it only got even better with Hudson!! I love both powerful versions...
